Should El Salvador Return To Its Original National Currency? El Colon And Not The Dollar…
Change is what former Salvadoran President Francisco Flores promised in 2001, when the country adopted the dollar as its national currency. He promised unparalleled economic prosperity and growth for all Salvadorans. But that has not been the case.
In 2001, Mr. Flores promised more foreign investments for El Salvador, and as a result, he proceeded with dollarizing the currency. This has had a negative impact on domestic small-business owners, while the foreign large-business owners have benefited from it.
Recently, El Salvador elected its first leftist president, Mauricio Funes. When running for office, Mr. Funes compared himself to Mr. Obama and continually said change and hope were coming to El Salvador and that he could deliver on his promise to improve the lives of Salvadorans.
Indeed, El Salvador is not better off under the dollar. The currency actually has created more poverty and an increase in murder and other crimes.
President Funes must deliver on his promise of hope and change. Returning to the colon would allow the domestic small and large businesses to return to higher production rates. This, in turn, would contribute to independence from foreign investors and, ultimately, decrease crime and violence in El Salvador.
Do you support that El Salvador should return to its original currency – El Colon?

That is probably one of the biggest historical errors ever made in El Salvador. Getting rid of its national currency: el colon. Now everything is so expensive and the crime/violence is out of hand.
This change for the “better” just make things better for the upper classes. If it is still possible the currency in El Salvador should change back to what it was before, for the best of the people.
I truly wish that the currency would return to the way it was! But what can the people of El Salvador do about it? Just wait for an honest president to take over and provide the change these people need. Did Flores really think changing the currency would benifit El Salvador? Just another fraud who wants more money. I spit at the sound of his filthy name!
I’ve heard nothing but negative things about the way the dollar changed the lives of many Salvadorean, this idea that the dollar would work it did more harm than good. the country desperately needs to go back to its original currency.
Comparing yourself to United States President wouldn’t be a wise thing to do, since americans currently have a bitter taster, but going back to the Colon is an awesome idea. Empower the people and they’ll keep you in power.
