PASADENA – On Saturday, El Centro de Accion Social sponsored a celebration and commemoration of Mexican-American labor leader Cesar Chavez.
The commemoration ceremony began at 10 a.m. at the Villa Park Community Center with an introduction by Randy Jurado Ertll, the executive director of El Centro de Accion Social. Awards were then given to local grade school students for their essays on Cesar Chavez.
Brief statements by Councilwoman Jackie Robinson and state Sen. Carol Liu regarding the importance of working for peace in the greater community followed.
The keynote speaker was poet, novelist, and essayist Luis J. Rodriguez. Best known for his book “Always Running: La Vida Loca, Gang Days in L.A.,” Rodriguez delivered an
